Leonard Cohen was a Canadian singer-songwriter who initially pursued a career as a poet and novelist before turning to music in 1967 at the age of 33. His folk and soft rock music influenced a generation and culminated in his most famous song, Hallelujah being released in 1984. Cohen provided a voice for many, highlighting political and social injustice in his work on numerous occasions.
